This condensed version of our 8-week pottery course focuses entirely on hand-building techniques, offering a thorough introduction to ceramics. Over four weeks, you’ll explore a variety of hand-building methods and create your own unique pottery pieces in a supportive and creative environment.
Week 1: Introduction to Clay & Pinch Pots
- Learn about different clay types.
- Master the pinch pot technique to create simple forms like bowls or cups.
Week 2: Coiling Techniques
- Discover how to build with coils to create functional or decorative pieces.
- Experiment with shape and form, adding texture for detail.
Week 3: Slab Building
- Learn how to roll and shape slabs to construct more complex pieces, such as trays or boxes.
- Experiment with cutting, joining, and texturing slabs.
Week 4: Surface Decoration & Finishing
- Explore surface decoration techniques such as carving, stamping, and using underglazes.
- Final touches on your creations, preparing them for firing.
