Duration: 6 weeks (2.5 hours per week)

Tuesdays between 11:00 - 13:30

Thursdays between 18:30 - 21:00

This course runs once a week for 2.5 hours and is perfect for those with some experience on the wheel or beginners looking to develop their skills. Over six weeks, you’ll refine your throwing techniques in our friendly and inspiring studio environment, with the opportunity to try different wheels and discover which one suits you best. You’ll start with the fundamentals of centring clay and progress to creating different forms such as bowls, cylinders, and mugs. As you build your confidence on the wheel, you’ll explore techniques like pulling walls, shaping, and refining your piece.. Each session will help you deepen your understanding of the pottery process and strengthen your skills.

Week 1: Introduction to the Wheel & Basic Techniques

• Introduction to the wheel and clay preparation.
• Learn to center the clay and create basic forms such as small bowls or cups.

Week 2: Building Basic Forms

• Refine centering skills and work on throwing taller forms such as cylinders.
• Focus on wall thickness and symmetry.

Week 3: Shaping & Altering

• Learn techniques to shape and alter your pieces as they progress.
• Experiment with adding feet or handles to your pots.

Week 4: Trimming & Refining

• Introduction to trimming techniques.
• Learn how to refine edges, smooth surfaces, and prepare pieces for the next stage.

Week 5: Exploring Texture & Surface Decoration

• Experiment with adding texture to your thrown pieces using carving, stamping, and other hand techniques.
• Learn how to enhance your forms with decorative elements.

Week 6: Finishing & Preparing for Firing

• Finalize your pieces by refining shapes and smoothing surfaces.
• Learn how to prepare your work for firing and discuss next steps for your pottery journey.
