The Full Story
About
Studio Agni is a ceramics and pottery studio based in Cornwall, UK, founded and led by Funda Ersoysal. The studio creates handmade ceramics and pottery for the home, bringing together functional objects, collectable pieces, and bespoke commissions through a material-led and process-driven approach.
Working across ceramic homeware, tableware, kitchenware, and lighting, Studio Agni produces pieces designed for everyday use and lasting presence. Each object is handmade in Cornwall, either as part of a small batch or as a one-off, carrying the subtle variations and traces of its making.
The studio’s work is informed by the raw qualities of clay and the elemental processes of forming and firing. Drawing from Cornwall’s geological landscape and wider material histories, Studio Agni creates pottery and ceramics that feel grounded, tactile, and timeless.
In addition to its core collection, Studio Agni works on bespoke ceramic and pottery commissions for interior designers, private clients, cafés, and restaurants across Cornwall and the UK. These projects range from custom tableware to site-specific pieces, developed in response to both aesthetic and functional needs.
Studio Agni also offers pottery and ceramics courses in Cornwall, creating a space for learning, making, and exchange. These sessions emphasise process, material understanding, and embodied practice.
At its core, the studio reflects a commitment to slow making, sustainability, and the intrinsic value of materials—where each piece holds a sense of time, place, and transformation.

Waste Clay Recovery
Studio Agni is actively developing a waste clay recovery system in collaboration with local industries across Cornwall. We are interested in intercepting clay from construction sites, excavation projects, and landscaping works that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
Much of this material still holds strong potential for ceramic use after processing. We collect, clean, and rework it within the studio, reintroducing it into production as a viable making material. This approach extends the life cycle of clay and reduces unnecessary waste within the construction and ceramics industries.
We welcome collaborations with local construction companies and contractors who produce clay-rich waste. Collection can be arranged directly from site, or materials can be delivered to our studio in Tresillian, Cornwall.
This process is part of a wider commitment to circular making—where discarded earth is not seen as waste, but as an active material resource ready to re-enter production.
Sustainability
Sustainability at Studio Agni is approached through material awareness, traceability, and a commitment to working in dialogue with place. Wherever possible, we invest in materials whose origins we understand, building a closer relationship between source, process, and finished object.
We incorporate ash glazes made from domestic waste materials—including residues from saunas, wood burners, and BBQs—transforming what would otherwise be discarded into surfaces shaped by fire and use. Around 70% of the clay used in the studio is sourced from St Agnes in Cornwall, grounding the work in its local geological context while reducing transport impact.
The studio operates a rigorous reclaim process: no clay is wasted or washed into drains. All material is collected, reprocessed, and returned to use, supported by a sedimentation system that captures clay from studio water before it re-enters circulation. This approach treats clay not as a disposable resource, but as a continuous material in motion.
Making is carried out with attention to energy use and longevity, including the use of an electric vehicle for studio logistics. Rather than a fixed system, sustainability at Studio Agni remains an evolving practice—shaped through making, firing, and an ongoing reconsideration of how materials are sourced, used, and returned.
