Funda Ersoysal

Funda Ersoysal is a Cornwall-based ceramicist, potter, and designer, and the founder of Studio Agni. With over 15 years of experience in the design industry spanning motion design, branding, and visual storytelling, her multidisciplinary background informs a practice that moves fluidly between pottery, ceramics, function, and narrative.

Working across both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques, Funda’s handmade pottery and ceramics practice is grounded in a direct, tactile relationship with materials. Based in Cornwall, her work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between hand, clay, and fire.

A central focus of her practice is the transformative nature of firing. She has a deep interest in gas and wood firing, particularly anagama kilns, where time, labour, and unpredictability become active collaborators in the making process. She regularly travels internationally to participate in long-duration firings, working alongside ceramicists and potters in different cultural and geological contexts.

These experiences inform a material understanding of pottery and ceramics as something alive—shaped not only by intention, but by atmosphere, environment, and elemental forces. Her work reflects a sensitivity to rawness, imperfection, and the passage of time.

Alongside her studio practice, Funda teaches pottery and ceramics in Cornwall, sharing both technical knowledge and an embodied, process-driven approach to making. Teaching and making exist in close dialogue within her work, each continuously informing the other.

Through her practice, Funda explores themes of materiality, temporality, and the relationship between object, maker, and landscape.
